What If Gay Actors Got the Same Praise Straight Actors Did?
What If Gay Actors Got the Same Praise Straight Actors Did?
You know how straight actors get all sorts of awards for playing LGBTQIA+ roles? This hilarious new skit takes that notion and flips it on its head.
Isn't being straight just exhausting? Imagine if you were an actor and had to do this on a daily basis! Well this hilarious new, interview-style sketch entitled Playing Straight takes the quintessential hetero, cisgender actor playing a queer part and completely reverses the circumstances.
Ezra Bordeaux (Peter Molesworth) has to pretend to be straight in order to play the role of "Johnny Boxer," and talks about the struggles and challenges he faced. While it sounds completely ridiculous, the sketch is in response to the very real problem of the increasing number of straight actors playing gay, and getting rewarded and praised for it. IRL, there is still a disproportionate lack of representation of openly trans and queer actors, and this sketch helps show that we want to see not only queer actors play parts written for them, but more queer actors working in the film industry!
