Like many 90s kids, I love mermaids. My appreciation for aquatic humanoids undoubtedly started with Ariel and grew to include Madison from Splash (1984), the mermaids in Hook (1991) and Cody from the Disney Channel original movie The Thirteenth Year (1999).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is in talks with Imagine Entertainment's Ron Howard and Brian Grazer to reboot Splash. Apparently, openly queer writer Marja-Lewis Ryan (The Four-Faced Liar) is hooked on the idea and set to write the script with a fishy twist — the mermaid will be a merman.

Channing Tatum will fill Daryl Hannah's fins and play the merperson while Jillian Bell tackles the character originally portrayed by Tom Hanks. At the moment, that's all we know about Tatum's upcoming role, so enjoy watching Madison the mermaid destroy televisions with her high-frequency siren song. You're welcome.
