Their love story is everything.
Hayley Kiyoko got real and teared up while talking about her girlfriend (and Bachelor alum) Becca Tilly’s coming out story on a recent episode of Tilley and Tanya Rad’s Scrubbing In podcast.
The two first met and started dating after Kiyoko’s Expectations album release party in 2018, but they chose to keep their relationship under wraps for four long years. The couple went public in May of this year with a kiss at Kiyoko’s launch party for her “For The Girls” music video at Mickey’s in West Hollywood.
During the celebration, Kiyoko brought Tilley onstage with her and kissed her in front of a delighted crowd. They followed this with a confirmation on social media. “hard to say if this is a hard or soft launch, but it is a launch,” Tilley wrote in the caption, sharing clips of the two together on Instagram. “The best four years ever,” Kiyoko replied in the comments. “I love you becca.”
This was not the first time that Kiyoko was in a relationship with someone who wasn’t out, however this time it was different, she said. “I was never a secret, we just kept our relationship private. It took me a second to get used to, and then I fell in love with it, because it was like, ‘This is ours, and how cool is this, that we get to just share this, and grow it and really build a foundation?’”
“Obviously, now we’ve shared it with everyone, and it’s been great because we know where we stand, and what we love to share, and what we love to keep to ourselves, and finding that fine line. But this is my first time doing this too, so we’re navigating that together, and I’m just happy to be a part of her journey.”
At this point in the episode, Kiyoko became emotional talking about everything her girlfriend has gone through in public. “She deserves lots of love, and everyone in my community, in our community, deserves to be loved and accepted for who they are,” she said.
As to being there for Tilley’s coming out, Kiyoko was proud to support her partner. “I was also honored to be there with her during her journey to know that she should live the life that she wants to live,” she said. “A lot of my fans go through that too, so it was really interesting to be a partner for that if that makes sense, ‘cause I hadn’t been a part of that.”
