Cher Fires Back After Tweet Calls Dua Lipa Our Generation's Cher

That is a legend you are speaking of!

Cher being active on Twitter continues to be a source of pure joy, and her recent response to comparisons between her and Dua Lipa is proving to be no exception.

In a since-deleted tweet, a Dua Lipa fan posted side-by-side images of both singers wearing sparkly outfits and rocking long, straight, dark hair. “Dua Lipa, the Cher of our generation,” the fan wrote.

The post made the rounds until another fan eventually tagged both women, adding, “So much truth in one tweet.”

Cher wasn’t quite as sold on the comparison — or, more specifically, the idea that anyone could be the Cher of a current generation when Cher herself is still thriving. “How many yrs are in a generation,” she replied.

It’s not shady toward Dua Lipa to point out that comparing anyone to Cher is a very bold move, let alone someone who has only been on the scene for five years and has only released two albums thus far.

Some have noted that the intent was to compare their fashions, but even still. As easily as we throw around the word “icon” these days, Cher’s status as a legend is not something to speak of lightly.

One fan’s side-by-side comparison of some of their looks over the years certainly suggests that Lipa might be drawing some inspiration from Cher, but first of all, who wouldn’t? Secondly, all that goes to show is how influential the “Believe” singer continues to be in 2022.

No matter how much you love the modern pop girlies, it is tough – and unfair – to try to compare them to a legend who has built a lasting, undeniable legacy like Cher’s. Overall, we can still celebrate Lipa and everyone else for their own accomplishments without setting them up for unrealistic comparisons.
