JoJo Siwa Celebrates One Year Anniversary of Coming Out

“In the last 365 days I’ve felt more love than ever."

It’s been a full year since JoJo Siwa came out in a cute Instagram post, and she’s commemorating the occasion appropriately — with another cute Instagram post.

“In the last 365 days I’ve felt more love than ever,” she wrote. “A year ago today I posted this picture and shared with the world that I was gay.”

Siwa came out last year January with a lip sync to Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" and a photo showing off a shirt reading, “Best. Gay. Cousin. Ever.”

At the time, fans were thrilled for the then-17-year-old for taking the time to understand who she is and being willing to share that with the world. And Siwa understood perfectly well what a big deal that all was.

“I get asked a lot ‘was coming out scary for you’…and the answer is yes of course, anything that’s different about you is scary, however… it’s what makes me… me,” she wrote. “So I had no fear sharing it with the world.”

The former Dance Moms star shared pictures of how her revelation has changed her life in the past year, including a People exclusive and cover after coming out and a still from her time on Dancing With the Stars, where she became part of the first same-sex team-up on the show.

“Truthfully I feel like I was put on this earth to be a role model for kids, and letting all the kids of the world know that loving everyone for who they are no matter what is something that I will always believe in and always share,” Siwa declared.

Her coming-out anniversary post was met with more love and support from fans, but a comment from her mother, Jessalynn, stands out in particular.

“Love you so much and so proud of everything you do, the big things and the little things,” she wrote, hopefully serving to inspire parents of queer teens to accept and support them in the same way that JoJo keeps encouraging those teens to embrace who they are themselves.
