On Thursday, supporters of the Free Britney movement were ecstatic over a reported win. TMZ released a report saying that Jamie Spears, Britney Spears' father, would be stepping down as her conservator. It's a role he has served in for 13 years and has come under heavy scrutiny for. Over the past few months, Britney has avidly and publicly fought to have her father removed from the role, even if the conservatorship itself stays in place. But now, NBC says that report is not accurate.
According to NBC, the court documents in question only state that Spears' father is "willing to step down." The filing states that he is serving in the role currently and should continue to be allowed to do so.
"Mr. Spears is willing to step down when the time is right, but the transition needs to be orderly and include a resolution of matters pending before the Court."
NBC News furth confirmed with Jamie Spears' legal team that he will not be stepping aside at this time.
