"I become 10% gayer every time I read a 'we get it you’re gay' comment."
The name on everybody's lips is Lil Nas X ever since the rapper dropped the instantly iconic music video for "Industry Baby" last Friday and the 22-year-old spent the weekend trolling critics and homophobes alike.
The music video depicts X in Montero State Prison with body tattoos, strutting around shirtless, dancing naked in the showers, and so much more. But the rapper's unabashed queerness is uncomfortable for many viewers and they take to Twitter to express their homophobia concerns.
Luckily, X has mastered the art of the clapback, so we were entertained all weekend.
“nigga i literally went to hell and twerked on satan but gay prison is where you draw the line ?!”— NASARATI (@NASARATI) 1627052895
He called out double standards some have for his music videos but not for other men sexualizing women in their songs.
“y’all be silent as hell when niggas dedicate their entire music catalogue to rapping about sleeping with multiple women. but when i do anything remotely sexual i’m “being sexually irresponsible” & “causing more men to die from aids” y’all hate gay ppl and don’t hide it.”— NASARATI (@NASARATI) 1627225813
None— HR (@HR) 1627274488
He addressed the idea that his song could turn a straight person gay.
“yes manipulation is real. agendas are real. i just simply don’t believe me in a fictional prison with twerking men could lead to a heterosexual man deciding to suck dick.”— NASARATI (@NASARATI) 1627131273
“all jokes aside the idea of a gay agenda doesn’t make sense. if someone influences you to suck cock you probably already wanted to suck cock.”— NASARATI (@NASARATI) 1627128158
He clapped back at a list of LGBTQ+ celebs who didn't shove their sexuality in anyone's face.
“many, if not all, of these artists had to hide their sexuality for majority of their career. you seem to only respect gay artists when the gay part is tucked away. you don’t like me because i embrace my sexuality instead of hiding it and never speaking on it for your comfort.”— NASARATI (@NASARATI) 1627193416
And at implications that he has a hand in effeminizing Black men.
“lemme explain

lil nas = gay
so he wit boy

jack harlow = straight
so he wit girl

got it??”— NASARATI (@NASARATI) 1627140024
“the truth is there is no attack. you view femininity as weakness. you don’t like gay black men because you are afraid of black men, as a whole, being viewed as weak. you cling on to your masculinity because without it you have nothing else going for yourself.”— NASARATI (@NASARATI) 1627102837
He took aim at religious folks too.
“there was nothing demonic about the industry baby video. just say u hate gay people musty.”— NASARATI (@NASARATI) 1627059928
He even called out People Magazine.
“y’all know exactly what you’re doing with this caption :/”— NASARATI (@NASARATI) 1627312041
“@people criticism is “this song is not good” not someone saying “you are the reason people are getting aids” :/”— People (@People) 1627310168
He truly is the king of clap backs.
“i become 10% gayer every time i read a “we get it you’re gay” comment”— NASARATI (@NASARATI) 1627024167
But at the end of the day, he's celebrating his fans and his music.
“lil nas x fans are the most prosecuted against group in america. thank u for standing in your truth. you are brave & we support u.”— NASARATI (@NASARATI) 1627059509
Refusing to be apologetic and anything besides himself is changing the world right before our eyes.
On top of all that, the "Industry Baby" music video is raising money for the Bail X Fund. "I know the pain that incarceration brings to a family," he wrote, "and the disproportionate impact that cash bail has on the black community." So far, they've raised over $44,000.
“on a serious note, i know the pain that incarceration brings to a family. and the disproportionate impact that cash bail has on the black community. that’s why i teamed up with @bailproject to create the Bail X Fund. let’s bring people home! 🤍 https://t.co/c6YOhNex7e”— NASARATI (@NASARATI) 1627141371
