After Coming Out, David Archuleta Thanks Supporters for Love

"I wasn't expecting this kind of response."

Last Saturday, "Crush" singer David Archuleta opened up about his struggles with his sexuality and faith in a moving Instagram post.

After rising to fame as the runner up on David Cook's season of American Idol, the then 17-year-old faced a lot of public questions and scrutiny about his sexuality. Now, Archuleta says "I’ve been open to myself and my close family for some years now that I am not sure about my own sexuality," the 30-year-old wrote.  Archuleta has struggled to find balance with his Mormonism and at first thinking he was gay, then bisexual, asexual, and currently, unsure. While he's still saving himself for marriage, he continues working to understand himself.

"There are people experiencing the same feelings of being LGBTQIA+, (i know that’s a lot of letters that a lot of people don’t understand, but there are a lot of unique experiences people feel and live that make them feel isolated and alone that are represented) who are wrestling to follow their beliefs that are so important to them, just as I have. Idk what to make of it and I don’t have all the answers. I just invite you to please consider making room to be more understanding and compassionate to those who are LGBTQIA+, and those who are a part of that community and trying to find that balance with their faith which also is a huge part of their identity like myself."

In a new post, Archuleta thanks fans for the outpouring of support since coming out.

"Hi all," he began. "I just wanted to say that doing yard work Saturday morning and feeling I needed to share what I was reflecting on that day I wasn't expecting this kind of response, your love, your shared stories and same struggles, and your support. Thank you," he concluded with a prayer emoji.

However he identifies, we hope Archuleta finds speace and happiness!
