Josh Thomas, creator and star of TV series Please Like Me and Everything's Gonna Be Okay, opened up about his Autism on Instagram earlier today.
"I have some news," the 33-year-old began. "I have known for a while now that I'm Autistic. It's been a nice experience for me, figuring it out."
Thomas's Freeform show, Everything's Gonna Be Okay, features an Autistic character played by an Autistic actress and has been praised for its funny and honest portrayal. Perhaps writing the series was a part of his learning process.
"I've learnt to understand myself better and it's helped people around me do the same. There's been a lot of emotions but the most dominant one has been relief."
Thomas hopes sharing this part of himself opens up the ideas of what a person living with Autism looks like.
"I've decided to share this with everyone because the range of Autistic people and characters we see in the media is very slim, when the autism spectrum is huge and varied. So here I am, another version of an Autistic person for people to see. Hopefully this helps further color in, and add texture to society's idea of what an Autistic person is."
Season 2 of Everything's Gonna Be Okay premieres April 8 on Freeform. Watch the trailer below:
