A now-viral home insurance commercial depicting a kid expressing himself freely has elicited praise from singer Stevie Nicks while inciting some rage from some more uptight viewers.
Advertising UK company John Lewis, the one-minute clip shows a young boy playing in his mother's makeup, dress, and heels and destructively prancing around the house while lip-synching to "Edge of Seventeen" by Stevie Nicks. While not exactly an accurate representation of damages home insurance will cover, it's certainly a fun celebration of this kid playing exactly how he wants to. "Let Life Happen," the commercial concludes.
“We wanted to inject joy, freedom and humor into this campaign," said customer director for John Lewis, Claire Pointon, in a statement. "The story we landed on fulfills this, with the idea that when you have John Lewis’ Home Insurance with the option of accidental damage cover, you don’t need to worry anymore, you can just 'let life happen.'"
While the commercial feels pretty innocent, it currently has about 1.2k likes on YouTube compared to 3k dislikes. One viewer wrote, "Any chance a company can sell us a product nowadays without ramming some kind of agenda down our throats?" Other comments on various social media platforms echo the sentiment.
Nicks isn't paying that negative attention any mind and shared the video on Twitter, simply commenting, "Love this!"
