Joe Exotic, star of Netflix's hit docuseries Tiger King, is still in prison, no thanks to Donald J. Trump.
If you remember from the series that took the world by storm last year, Exotic is currently serving a 22-year sentence after hiring a hitman to murder his archnemesis, Carole Baskin, along with 17 counts of animal cruelty.
In one of his last acts as president, Trump pardoned 73 people for their various crimes (including former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon and rapper Lil Wayne) and granted clemency for 70 others. Exotic's name did not appear on the list, and with Trump leaving Washington D.C. today, it seems the mullet-wearing anti-hero has lost all hope of leaving prison any time soon.
"I was too innocent and too GAY to deserve a Pardon from Trump," Exoctic tweeted. "I only mattered to Don Jr. when he needed to make a comment about me to boost his social media post. Boy were we all stupid to believe he actually stood for Equal Justice? His corrupt friends all come first."
Exotic is referring to a Sirius XM Radio interview last year where Trump Jr. said the charges against the mullet-wearing personality were "aggressive." He "watched the show, but it was like, I don’t know exactly what he was guilty of or wasn’t. It doesn’t seem like he was totally innocent of anything. But when they’re saying, 'We’re putting this guy away for 30 years,' I’m saying that seems sort of aggressive."
In September, Exotic's lawyers filed a pardon application claiming their client had been "railroaded and betrayed" by enemies and that "he will likely die in prison" from health complications.
According to The Sun, Exotic's lawyers were so sure that he was going to be pardoned yesterday that they booked a limo that was waiting outside the FMC Prison in Fort Worth, Texas, as well as a hair and makeup team.
