Demi Lovato Opens Up About Coming Out to Her Parents
Her dad had the best response.
Demi Lovato is back with a vengeance, first performing at the Grammys and next, singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. But it also means she’s doing the interview rounds once again.
And while much of the discussion has revolved around what’s next for her in music, and the time she spent battling her addiction after accidentally overdosing back in 2018, the “Cool for the Summer” singer recently opened up to Andy Cohen about coming out as sexually fluid to her parents.
“I didn’t officially tell my parents that I saw myself ending up possibly with a woman too until like 2017,” she said on Radio Andy.
“It was actually emotional, but really beautiful, and after everything was done, I was shaking and crying and I just felt overwhelmed. But I have such incredible parents, they were so supportive. My dad was like, ‘Yeah, obviously.’ I was like, ‘Wow, okay, Dad.’”
After Andy expressed some shock at the response, Demi clarified: “No, he said like, ‘Hello? 'Cool for the Summer.’’ And I was like, ‘Okay I get it.’”
But Demi says it was her mom who she was the most nervous about telling, though it turned out she had no reason for concern.
“She was like, ‘I just want you to be happy,’ and that was so beautiful and amazing,” she said.
The context of the conversation was about whether or not Demi, who has a role on Will & Grace this season playing the surrogate carrying Will’s future baby, has any plans to start her own family in the near future.
“I don’t know what my future looks like,” she admitted, saying she’s still figuring out what that might look like. “I don’t know if I’m going [have kids] with a partner or without.”
But either way, it sounds like her parents have her back!
