Hollywood loves a good closet.

Too many celebrity coming out stories over the years are woven in with their memories of being told that coming out as LGBTQ will hurt their career, that it’s better just to keep your private life to yourself.

Turns out, even the most visible LGBTQ celebrities still get similar advice even after coming out of the closet.

So revealed Kristen Stewart when she sat down with Harper’s Bazaar recently.

“I have fully been told, ‘If you just like do yourself a favour, and don’t go out holding your girlfriend’s hand in public, you might get a Marvel movie,’” she said.

But the Charlie's Angels star is having none of it: “I don’t want to work with people like that.”

Stewart's transition from an uncomfortable 19-year-old thrust into an insane media frenzy during the Twilight years to a seemingly well-adjusted gives-no-fucks adult who seems plenty confident in her own skin has been well-documented.

And whether her public embrace of her sexual fluidity impacted that in a serious way or if it was more the other way around, they certainly happened at the same time.

“I think I just wanted to enjoy my life,” she said. “And that took precedence over protecting my life, because in protecting it, I was ruining it Like what, you can’t go outside with who you’re with? You can’t talk about it in an interview?”

Stewart also took a moment in the interview to slam the repeated insistence that she identify with one specific label — something undoubtedly relatable to many members of the LGBTQ community.

“I just think we’re all kind of getting to a place where — I don’t know, evolution’s a weird thing — we’re all becoming incredibly ambiguous. And it’s this really gorgeous thing.”
