Karamo Brown Defends Dancing With the Stars Castmate Sean Spicer
We were rooting for you, Karamo.
Queer Eye fans have yet another reality show to start watching this fall, as culture expert Karamo Brown will be joining the cast of Dancing With the Stars.
Unfortunately, the excitement of Brown’s casting news has already been overshadowed by a controversy of his own design.
Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer, famous for repeatedly and blatantly lying on President Trump’s behalf, is among those joining the cast of the dancing show. The internet quickly took offense at the prospect of this show rewarding Spicer with fame and money for deceiving the American people while hypothetically working for us.
But things took an even more unfortunate turn when Brown stepped up to defend him.
“Sean Spicer and I have been talking,” he said. “I was most excited to meet him. Because the thing is that people would look at us and think we’re polar opposites, but I’m a big believer that if you can talk to someone and meet in the middle, you can learn about each other and help each other both grow.”
“Here’s Karamo Brown calling Sean Spicer “a good guy; a really sweet guy” cause what’s morality, really?”— Ξvan Ross Katz (@Ξvan Ross Katz) 1566429935
“He’s a good guy,” he added. “A really sweet guy.”
It wasn’t long before Karamo started getting slammed on Twitter for his comments, and though he maintained that he’s excited to continue chatting with Spicer, he swerved a bit and now claims that the reason is wanting to “educate those who have a different POV.”
“@Mandabald First, I have no say who is on the cast and didn’t find out till this morning that he is on! But I’ll tell you this... I’m excited to sit down w/ him and engage in a respectful conversations. Only way things get better is if we try to educate those who have different POV than us.”— Karamo (@Karamo) 1566407186
Having the patience to try to change the minds of people like Sean Spicer, who rose to fame by backing a President often accused of homophobia and racism, is one thing. But defending him to the world when you could instead just, like, not? That is a CHOICE.
Rachel Kiley is presumably a writer and definitely not a terminator. She can usually be found crying over queerbaiting in the Pitch Perfect franchise or on Twitter, if not both.
