Laverne Cox is one of 15 women gracing the cover of British Vogue next month and we’re already itching to get our hands on a copy.
The special edition of the magazine was guest edited by Meghan Markle, who selected women she admires to fit the issue’s theme of “Forces for Change.”
“Through this lens I hope you’ll feel the strength of the collective in the diverse selection of women chosen for the cover as well as the team of support I called upon within the issue to help bring this to light. I hope readers feel as inspired as I do, by the ‘Forces for Change’ they’ll find within these pages,” the Duchess said.
It’s undoubtedly a cover that Cox, who has been a relentless advocate for transgender rights and the LGBTQ community at large, belongs on.
“I am completely overwhelmed and overjoyed to share this cover,” she wrote on Instagram. “Being on the cover of Vogue magazine has been a dream of mine since I was a child. To get to share this cover with a group of women who inspire me, who are truly forces for change is deeply humbling.”
And while Cox is American, that doesn’t make the fact that this is a UK cover any less meaningful.
“That it’s [British Vogue] is even more special to me because British Vogue was the first to feature a black model on its cover, Donyale Luna in May 1966,” she added.
The special issue features other trailblazers such as climate change activist Greta Thunberg, Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Arden, actress and body positivity advocate Jameela Jamil, and permanent icon Jane Fonda.
The issue itself hits stands on August 2, but a video from the shoot featuring each of the 15 women discussing their answers to the question "What changes do you want to see in the world?" is being released later today.
