Jane Fonda continues to prove she is an absolute queen, getting arrested for a THIRD TIME protesting climate change in Washington, D.C. yesterday.
Fonda moved to the capital recently to temporarily devote her time to protests while taking a break from her Netflix show Grace & Frankie. She had already been arrested twice this month on the steps of the Capitol building, alongside other activists, and it turns out the second time was more iconic than we realized.
The actor was set to receive the BAFTA Stanley Kubrick Award for Excellence in Film at a ceremony in Los Angeles yesterday. Knowing she wouldn’t be able to make it, she sent in a pre-recorded acceptance speech instead.
The video, played at the award ceremony, shows Fonda being zip tied alongside other protestors last week. Noting the cameras present, Fonda looked directly into one, and gave her damn acceptance speech right there during her arrest.
“BAFTA, thank you!” she yelled, smiling gracefully. “Thank you! For the Stanley Kubrick Brittania Award for Excellence in Film. Thank you!”
“I’m sorry I’m not there! I’m very honored!” she added, shaking her cuffed hands as the cops led her away.
That particular protest also saw her fellow Grace & Frankie actor, Sam Waterston, briefly thrown behind bars. The most recent slew of arrests on Friday included The Good Place star Ted Danson.
But Fonda has drawn the most attention, getting arrested three weeks in a row, with no end in site as she continues to use her fame to raise awareness about humanity’s impending doom.
“I’m going to take my body, which is kind of famous and popular right now because of the [Netflix] series [Grace and Frankie] and I’m going to go to D.C. and I’m going to have a rally every Friday,” Fonda said previously.
“It’ll be called ‘Fire Drill Friday.’ And we’re going to engage in civil disobedience and we’re going to get arrested every Friday.”
