Folk/Soul singer Hozier cemented his status as an ally last week when he waved a trans Pride flag on stage during a London concert.
According to PinkNews, a fan tossed the flag on stage during the 29-year-old's performance of "Nina Cried Power." He displayed the flag on stage during the rest of the set, and when he ended the show with his mega-hit "Take Me to Church," he grabbed the flag again waved it in front of the cheering audience, and waved it like a cape.
"Hozier is highly political," fan Filip Mikulski, who threw the flag on stage, told PinkNews. "Both in his music and his public presence, and seeing him take a stand with the trans community really means a lot."
Hozier has been a vocal LGBTQ ally since the beginning of his celebrity. "Take Me to Church" peaked at #2 on the Hot 100 in 2014 and the music video featured two men facing anti-gay discrimination and violence in Russia. PRIDE named the track about sexual freedom one of the best gay anthems of the decade.
During the concert the following night, another trans Pride flag was thrown on stage and the crowd reportedly repeated "Trans Lives Matter" as he performed.
"He sees our fight and our struggles, and stands among us, not against us," said Mikulski. "It is hard for me to not see him as an LGBT+ ally when all his actions show that he cares about the community, and supports us and our actions."
In conclusion, we've decided to stan harder than ever.
