This past weekend, Lord Ivar Mountbatten wed his partner, James Coyle, in a beautiful Bridwell Park ceremony, marking the first-ever same-sex royal wedding!
Mountbatten, who is the Queen's third cousin once removed, divorced his wife of 17-years in 2011, came out publicly in 2016, and just two years later said his vows to the man he loves in front of sixty family members and friends, including his three daughters.
He was given away by his ex-wife, Lady Penny Mountbatten.
Attitude reports that no members of the central British Royal Family were present but Prince Edward and other royals congratulated the newlyweds.
"When I was growing up, it was known as 'the love that dare not speak its name', but what's amazing now is how far we have all come in terms of acceptance," said Mountbatten on his coming out journey. "Being a Mountbatten was never the problem. It was the generation into which I was born."
"' Coming out' is such a funny phrase but it's what I suppose I did in a rather roundabout way, emerging to a place I'm happy to be."
Congratulations to the happy couple!
