Our 'Grey's Anatomy' Fave Sara Ramirez Just Came Out as Bisexual

Former Grey's Anatomy star Sara Ramirez played bisexual doctor Callie on the show for years, but on October 8th the actress announced that she identifies as queer and bisexual herself while speaking at the True Colors: 40 to None Summit in Los Angeles. The event focuses LGBT homelessness across the country, and Sara explained why this cause means even more to her than we might have known in a personal and emotional statement:

"So many of our youth experiencing homelessness are youth whose lives touch on many intersections—whether they be gender identity, gender expression, race, class, sexual orientation, religion, citizenship status. And, because of the intersections that exist in my own life: Woman, multi-racial woman, woman of color, queer, bisexual, Mexican-Irish American, immigrant, and raised by families heavily rooted in Catholicism on both my Mexican and Irish sides, I am deeply invested in projects that allow our youth's voices to be heard, and that support our youth in owning their own complex narratives so that we can show up for them in the ways they need us to."

Sara, who married banker Ryan DeBolt in 2012, published the statement on her own Twitter and Instagram and announced the full video will be released soon.

This honest and powerful couldn't have come at a better time. We're so thrilled that Sara is speaking up for such an important cause and can't wait to see the video in full!
