Why It's so Important That Kanye West Supports Caitlyn Jenner
Caitlyn Jenner's long awaited docuseries, I Am Cait, premiered on E! last night. Fans of the show were most surprised by an appearance from Kanye West. The rapper, who has famously refused to appear on KUWTK because "it's bad for his image and his brand," showed up with his wife, Kim Kardashian.
According to Jenner, her and Kanye, "have never been close, but I love his open-mindedness, and I love how he's helped Kim come to grips with what's going on."
Kanye, known for always giving long-winded speeches at his concerts, told Jenner, "I think that's one of the strongest things that have happened in our existence as human beings, that are so controlled by perception. Cause you couldn't have been up against more, like your daughter's a supermodel."

West is super conscious of his position as a celebrity, and he's very careful of the type of artists and people that he aligns himself with. There has to be a part of himself that relates to Jenner, who as West said, "you couldn't have been up against more." West is constantly up against people who put him down for being outspoken, and call him "egocentric," but, really, he's just being honest and telling it like it is.
West went on to tell Jenner, "You are a celebrity. Every type of thing and it was still like, fuck everybody. This is who I am."
In April, when Jenner first came out to the world with Diane Sawyer, she told Sawyer it was because of Kanye that Kim was so accepting of her transition. Kanye told Jenner, "Look, I can be married to the most beautiful woman in the world, and I am. I can have the most beautiful little daughter in the world and I have that. But I'm nothing, if I can't be me. If I can't be true to myself, they don't mean anything."
Jenner went on to say, "since then, Kimberly has been by far the most accepting and the easiest to talk to about it."
It's important for a hip-hop star to show visible support for Jenner and her transition because in the past, we've seen artists such as Erick Sermon, who was asked if transgender people would ever be accepted in hip-hop, and he said, "They're taking the culture too far. You have to be what hip-hop represents. The culture is what it is. It's a sport for men and women who are representing the culture."
West has made so many groundbreaking songs, and is in his own words, "the greatest living rock star on the planet." There's no doubt that his decisions can influence and transform culture. It's a good step towards more LGBT acceptance in hip-hop.
Kanye has also showed support for Jenner, back in June, when all of the Jenner/Kardashian clan went off-roading in the desert for Father's Day:
