While shows about enigmatic and randy doctors was the trend for a while, it seems that writers are keeping it in the medical family, with nurse shows premiering as this season’s new black. Though I must admit that there’s something about Nurse Jackie that keeps my attention just a tad more --maybe it’s the drug-addiction complexity, or the adultery, hell maybe it’s just Edie Falco -- than Jada Pinkett Smith’s new drama on TNT, HawthoRNe was still worth the watch. Pinkett-Smith gets sassy on this new drama, in which she plays a workaholic widow who can’t stay away from her job. Does that kind of sound like the 232,989 other medical dramas out there? Maybe. So what makes Hawthorne stand out from all the rest? Did I mention it’s spelled HawthoRNe? You see, it’s got the initials for registered nurse built right into the show. Clever, I know.
In all sincerity, Jada can hold her own on a show, but I still prefer her in spiral hair and that maroon get up in Matrix Reloaded. Call me old fashioned.
One of the most highly anticipated season finale’s came last week as Bravo’s Real Housewives of New Jersey came to a close with an episode appropriately titled, “The Last Supper.” From the beginning of the season, I’ve been on the edge of my seat waiting for more than two seconds of the “table flip” scene. And after weeks of watching, it finally came. Teresa, my new favorite housewife (and no, it has nothing to do with her new pair of full C’s) decides to throw a housewarming party for her close friends, but since her French Chateau was still under construction, she made history by throwing a housewarming dinner party that wasn’t in her just-moved-in house. But hey, when you can pay for $120,000 worth of furniture in cash, you can do just about anything in life, so if a woman wishes to flip a table in a nice restaurant, she will.

Never one to lose her temper, Teresa stayed under the radar amidst all the controversy regarding housewife Danielle’s past, and an infamous book that pegs her as a prostitute, man-stealer, and kidnapper. Like I told you, these aren’t your OC mommies. Though we’ll never know if the book is truly just the fictitious work of a husband scorned, Danielle’s life 20 years ago.
And if you’re aching for some girl-on-girl action, don’t fret, because though we may be in our off season dry spell, promising Sapphic storylines are coming your way this coming fall and summer.
First up, as if hearing that Evan Rachel Wood playing queen of the vamps on True Blood weren’t exciting enough, it’s confirmed that there will be a definite lesbian storyline for her. Will she be the type to take ‘em home, and have them dead by the morning, we’ll have to wait and see.
Here’s a video interview of what she has to say.

Also, next fall, the nearly nixed, Dollhouse starring lesbian favorite Eliza Dushku will also be getting gayer. In a recent interview with MTV, Eliza gave hints of some story-lines:
“Eliza wouldn’t give any huge plot points away about the second season of Dollhouse, but she did say that there would definitely be some storylines following gay and lesbian characters, and some storylines that would follow her own “adventures” she’s had traveling to Uganda assisting the rehabilitation of child soldiers.”
What exactly those adventures entail, let’s hope they’re just as hot as Faith and Buffy going at it during their up and down relationship of slayer versus slayer.
And for any other fans looking forward to fill their voids of lady love, Grey’s Anatomy Calzona fans will be happy to know that Jessica Capshaw has been upgraded to regular next season, which means she won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. Will her relationship with Callie last the season however, is another story. When we last left them, the ladies where doing well and on solid ground, but as Grey’s fans know, doctors and residents can kind of disappear out of nowhere, so perhaps we shouldn’t hold our breath.
Nonetheless, even though we’re just into our first few days of summer, we’ve got some very promising sights to watch out for when we aren’t out enjoying the sun.
