Tony Award nominations were announced Tuesday morning and some of our favorite Broadway gals made the list, while others were left in the lurch.
EW reports thatCatherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury scored nominations for the musical revival A Little Night Music (five-time winner Lansbury could become the top winning performer in Tony history). The lovely and talented Scarlett Johansson joined the nominees with a nod for her role in A View From the Bridge.
Oscar nominees Viola Davis and Laura Linney face off in the leading actress category.
Although the production was short-lived, Sarah Ruhl's historical dramedy In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play, picked up a Best Play nomination as well as a nod for featured actress Maria Dizzia.
Fela! (producers include Jay-Z, Will Smith, and Jada Pinkett Smith) was nominated along with the acclaimed musical revival La Cage aux Folles with the most Tony nominations, boasting 11 each. Director Kenny Leon's revival of August Wilson's Fences pulled in 10.
Much to our chagrin, Broadway favorites Bebe Neuwirth and Nathan Lane did not make the list of nominees for their unrivaled roles in the musical The Addams Family.
Carrie Fisher could not be nominated for her hilarious one-woman show Wishful Drinking since the Tonys eliminated the Special Theatrical Event category this year. We think she would have taken home the award!
