With so much information coming at us on the Internet it's tough to keep up with all of the mostly meaningless but guilty pleasure type of info out there – and some of it is meaningful. Either way, here's a smattering of pop culture from around the web!
The British invasion is alive and well with An Education’s wonder girl Carey Mulligan landing more work than you can swing a cat at in a lesbian’s living room. Anyway, the delightful Carey, who has starred in and stolen scenes in Wall Street 2 and Never Let Me Go with Keira Knightley, since her breakthrough, Oscar nominated role in An Education, is now being bandied about as a top contender for the role of Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby, starring Leo DiCaprio.
Other ladies who’ve been considered for the role that Mia Farrow famously embodied in the 1974 big screen version are Blake Lively, Scarlett Johansson and Rebecca Hall, and while I enjoy all of those actresses in their own right, my vote’s for Carey. And putting her up while shooting will be a cheap affair as she has a penchant for Best Western’s sweet potato fries. Gotta love a simple girl!
Speaking of Keira Knightley, she and Elisabeth Moss are slated to star in the West End revival of Lillian Hellman’s drama The Children’s Hour, which was famously put on celluloid with Shirley Maclaine and Audrey Hepburn in the lead roles, about two women running a school together, who are accused of there being something ‘indecent’ between them.
The devastating filmic portrayal of Hellman’s play was released during the height of the Haye’s code and was therefore stripped of overt lesbianism and heavily ‘coded.’ Now, AfterEllen is reporting that a small screen version of the play is in the works. While it would be fun to play cast that TV movie, I’m not sure I could do much better than Knightley and Moss, unless it airs on Lifetime! Because casting that opens up all sorts of possibilities. Candace Cameron Bure, Tracey Gold, Shannen Doherty – the list goes on!
The Big ‘O’ -- that is -- Oprah, held a The Color Purple reunion on her show today, and while I haven’t had a chance to check out the reunion between Celie, Shug, Miss Sophia and the rest, I did catch this clip of Oprah and The Color Purple star Whoopi Goldberg clearing the air all these years later. It seems that innuendo and assumption happens on all levels because Oprah and Whoopi hadn’t spoken for years, each thinking the other was mad. Oprah cried, Whoopi gave her heartbreaking half-smile, and all was right with the world!

On the subject of celebrities playing nice, erstwhile bisexual Megan Fox paid House star Olivia Wilde, who plays bisexual on the show Thirteen, a compliment of the highest order when Fox said, “Olivia Wilde is so sexy, she makes me want to strangle a mountain ox.”
And that’s just fine with Olivia, who told Playboy, "I thought it was a witty, clever choice of words." She added, "It's rare when actors in this business compliment each other. I'm sure she means no harm to the mountain oxen."
In what is likely considered anti-news at this point, an ET reporter at the premiere of Natalie Portman’s The Turning Point meets Fatal Attraction thriller Black Swan, tried to coerce Natalie into saying something lascivious about her now infamous ‘lesbian kiss’ with Mila Kunis. But Natalie wasn’t playing. She just called it ‘awkward,’ as many first kisses can be. Oh well, at least Natalie looks lovely in the clip!
I’m not sure I like the sound of this. NBC has renewed 30 Rock for another season, but is moving the multi-Emmy winning comedy to a 10 pm slot. WHAT??? A comedy at 10 pm? Why that’s just never heard of in network television. Nurse Jackie and Weeds on Showtime. Sure, but not on a network. Here’s hoping the timeslot works out for Tina Fey and the gang, but NBC needs to stop playing around with those time slots. I mean, I’m hard pressed to recall Friends moving once in 10 years. And while I’m at it, where the hell is Parks and Recreation?
And, on the subject of Tina Fey, the wickedly funny scribe was honored with the Mark Twain Award for American Humor, which aired this weekend. While it was a night of many laughs and tips of the hat to Tina, Ms. Jennifer Hudson paid Tina some Respect with a killer rendition of one of Aretha Franklin’s signature songs.

Wildly visual director Julie Taymor has been one busy woman lately with her version of The Tempest hitting the big screen this holiday season, and with her stage adaptation of Spiderman, Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark, a musical, set debut on Broadway. Now, famed photographer Annie Leibovitz has shot the first photos with the cast for Vogue. Here are Reeve Carney as Spidey, Patrick Page as the Green Goblin and Next to Normal’s ‘Invisible Girl,’ Jennifer Damiano as Mary Jane.
Here’s a quickie that AfterEllen caught – Glee’s Naya Rivera, who plays the no-holds-barred, sassy Cheerio Santana, said she believes that Santana and Brittany (Heather Morris) are ‘soul mates.’ “I think that they should end up together,” says Naya. “They’re in love.” And we concur! Let’s have a girl / girl happy ending for Santana and Brittany!
