Talk about a fast renewal.
Starz's upcoming sword-and-sandals story Spartacus: Blood and Sand hasn't even aired its first episode and the pay cabler has already given it the green light for a second season, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Co-starring Xena's Lucy Lawless and Dante's Cove's Erin Cummings, Spartacus debuts Friday, Jan. 22, and features a lot of skin and hot ladies — and judging from the trailer, possibly even a lesbian story line, although that doesn't seem to be getting much attention.

It's hard to tell who's who so far, but just that sneak peek at Lawless, who plays Lucretia, is enough to whet any Xena fan's whistle. And Cummings looks set to melt a whole new set of hearts.
Cummings, who previously scored fans with her role as the love interest to Van and Brit on Here! TV's Dante's Cove, plays Sura, the wife and soul of Spartacus.
The ruthless — and scantily clad gladiators — will have their hands full of lovely ladies in the Starz drama about corruption, lust and legends.

Sources say the Season 2 pickup was done early to allow the Sam Raimi-produced series to go back into production early. Raimi also has written such hits as all the Spider-Man films, and has produced Legend of the Seeker, Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules.
Cummings, meanwhile, appears set to start the new year with a great January. She also has the pulpy B-movie Bitch Slapcoming out in January, in which she plays Hel, the lesbian leader of a band of bad girls.
