Openly gay popular A&R talent and former 4 Non Blondes singer/songwriter/music producer Linda Perry has an opinion or two about lesbians and the infamous U-Haul moving van. If her track record in the recording studio is any match to her insight into relationships and soul sisters, Perry has a lot going into her argument for waiting.
In the span of over 22 years in the entertainment industry, Perry has worked with controversial singer/songwriters Pink, Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera, Adam Lambert, Dave Navarro, Jewel, Courtney Love, Alicia Keys, James Blunt, Cheap Trick, Lisa Marie Presley, Kelly Osbourne, Britney Spears and others. She has been credited in the media for diving in and drawing out the spiritual and emotional side of the artists she takes on. (You may recall the feud between Pink and Christina Aquilera when Pink admitted that she was threatened and upset by Perry choosing to work with Aguilera and not her exclusively). Perry’s music has also been played on the soundtracks of some of your favorite television shows (ER, Grey’s Anatomy, Gilmore Girls, Glee, and others).
Now, you have to admit - working with all of the aforementioned talents takes patience, perseverance and commitment.
I met up with the popular songstress out on the town recently and had a few moments to talk with her about her relationship with former The L Wordstar Clementine Ford (who also happens to be Cybill Shepherd’s daughter), and what might make or break their relationship.
Perry and Ford have been an item for about two years. On the subject of moving in together Perry said, “We’re still in that U-Haul phase. I think that when you make it past the two, then you can start really unpacking, you know?” And Perry makes great sense. More U-Hauls are probably rented by lesbians per hour than tools to carpenters per year (okay, so maybe I am exaggerating a little, but the point remains the same – lesbians tend to move quickly into relationships before knowing if the fit is right). U-Haul in, U-Haul out. Repeat. Break up. Make up. Until finally we leave our items in the boxes for a little while longer…just in case. Perry, just like everyone else out there in the world, is filled with relationship and personal insecurities and wondering – what next?
When I mentioned to the very private Perry that she is out in the spotlight supporting her very public' ball and chain' she noticeably shrinks in size and quips, “This might actually doom our relationship right this moment. So, if you hear that we broke up, it’s pretty much going to be your fault.”
