Starting tonight, there will be a real lesbian on Monday night TV! HGTV’s Design Star premieres its sixth season tonight, with four out contestants, including a lesbian!
Leslie Ezelle is a 43-year-old former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader and breast cancer survivor. According to her bio on the Design Star website, she is a “mom of a blended family,” and “has a wide variety of design experience ranging from remodels to home staging for real estate agents.”
Leslie talked a bit about her life at home – with a partner and four kids (11-year-old twin boys, and 13-year-old and 9-year-old daughters) - in an interview with the Fort Worth Star Telegram:
“We’re the real-life Modern Family. I'm in a same-sex relationship, and we're a blended family. My little girl was born in China, and her little boys are quite the handful. So it's a pretty entertaining household. Plus we have a petting zoo. We've got so many living things in this house, it's crazy. Three dogs, a couple of kitties, turtles, hamsters. I'm doing a major overhaul of this space so we can make room for the growing boys.”
Leslie describes herself as fun, with a larger-than-life personality, which is imporant in the contest as contestants need to be comfortable on camera in addition to being a talented designer.
Leslie jumps right into the first challenge during tonight's episode.
As for her design style, Leslie uses the less-is-more approach to her designs, keeping her projects easy and inexpensive. She helps her clients “tame their domain” and believes that stress-free, organized homes offer the happiest and healthiest environments.

The other out contestants this season are three gay men. Kevin Grace is a fashion merchandise director from Chicago. Karl Sponholtz is also from Chicago and has over 10 years of practical design experience. Tyler Wisler is from New York City and specializing in using recycled materials.
