Waiting two years for the next installment of the Harry Potter movie series is the best formula to make rabid fans wait anxiously in line for the highly anticipated 6th edition of the novel series by J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
So what’s new with the students of Hogwarts since we last left them? Well, many of them seem to be taken under the puberty spell, you know that awkward phase where girls are taller than boys and boys have finally acknowledged the existence of girls, as I did around that age. The magical movie, along with its whimsical quality was also dripping with teen angst, and for a while, I wasn’t sure if I had wandered into the sequel to Twilight. Throw in girls in uniform, and you’ve got my attention.
Though usually tough and annoyingly always right, Hermione (Emma Watson) was a puddle this time around, as she spent most of the movie pining after her new revelation of love for her friend Ron (Rupert Grint), which made her sickeningly and starkly straight. Though Watson has come a long way from frizzy hair and bushy eyebrows, we won’t be seeing the Brown-bound actress in other movies as she plans to retire from the movie business once the last Harry Potter wraps up to focus on her education.
The girl who really stole the show (or movie) was the seemingly coy redheaded sister of Ron, Ginny Weasley played by Bonnie Wright. Maybe it’s just me, but the Ginny this time around was assertive, commanding and most importantly tall! And well, hot. Don’t worry, I googled her age, and am legally allowed to say that. Maybe it’s just me, but the two -year hiatus has transformed the actress to a character worth noticing.
So one may wonder, what does such a straight-laced film have to do with the gays? Umm, the dykish fantasies between the characters of Hermione and Ginny of course! Come on - don’t act like you haven’t delved into the world of some Hermione/Ginny fanfiction at least once in your lifetime. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, check this out. This girl/girl fantasy concocted by some very ingenious fans will be happy with the way these characters have come to life, and though the movie lacks even the subtlest of girl-oriented undertones, if your imagine is big enough, you could still contrive some longing stares between these two young hotties.
