I walked into the club we all know as Girlbar on Friday, May 28, and started thinking, "this is not the good old Girlbar we've all grown to love." On that night there was some kind of fresh magnetism in the air -- this kind of coolness, a fire that I haven't felt before. It was something that made me want to stay -- and unless I'm covering a story, I never want to stay.
But something about Girlbar on that night was different. Then, the difference walked through the door, in the form of a fierce blue dress, hair extensions and heels for days. Dani Frank, creator of The Betty at Fubar on Wednesday nights had just given the tried and true Girlbar a facelift, and with the spark that's was in the air, she must be the best plastic surgeon in town.
I had never seen such a packed house; complete with hot women, musical performers and the two hottest DJ's I've heard in decades. Killed by Synth doesn't only have the best DJ name in history, she also has the talent to back it up, making her electronic beats sound smooth coupled with her amazingly seamless mix tapes -- I can say is she's dope. The resident DJ was beyond good as well -- and I've found in this city that's usually not the case -- so it was refreshing to want to dance to DJ Beau's mix of beats. They were both phenomenal. Eclectic and different, which was a refreshing change to the machine of DJ's Los Angeles seems to create, with the same post pop package coming out of every apple computer and set of turn tables in the city. It was nice to hear something new, and the crowd seemed to be eating it up.
There was also a live performance by Erika Jayne, which may sound strange at first, but she rocked the house in the end. Her dancers had on sparkle sequin suits and held faux guns dripping with glitter. Tell me that's not something you want to see? Her sexy vocals and sultry dance moves kept the crowd going for an hour.

Dani Frank promised to change the face of girl's nights all over Los Angeles, bringing fashion, art and live musical performances to your already fun-filled and dance crazed nights of drinking. I think she has proved now that she's doing just that. I'm sure there are many more amazing nights to come, and I can only imagine they will keep getting better.
Girlbar, begun back in the day by Sandy Sachs and Robin Gans, may prove once again to be the hottest new spot for girls in Los Angeles... So ladies get out your pack of Parliament lights from the back of that kitchen drawer -- the ones you promised you'd never smoke, put on your Friday best, and get out there, cause Friday's at Girlbar, are not to be missed. Way to go Dani, one of the best nights I've seen in Los Angeles in a while! Oh, and please oh please, I beg you to check out the dancers. They are worth seeing.
