'90210' Not-So-Lesbian Episode

While I’ve been anxiously awaiting the “lesbian” story line on the CW’s '90210' for months, it’s only now starting to pay off and the wait — so far, anyway — hasn’t been worth it.

Oh guilty pleasure TV, how I love to hate you and hate to love you.

While I’ve been anxiously awaiting the “lesbian” story line on the CW’s 90210 for months, it’s only now starting to pay off and the wait — so far, anyway — hasn’t been worth it.

On Tuesday’s episode, we find Adrianna (Jessica Lowndes) still pining over Navid (Michael Steger) and Gia (celebrity offspring Rumer Willis) still waiting in the wings for Adrianna to come around to the sweeps-worthy lesbian story line.

As the CW does every week, the slow-moving stories evolve with boys being boys and girls generally lacking any backbone or worthwhile story line — well, at least of late. Even my beloved go-against-the-grain Silver (Jessica Stroup) has taken to spying on her player boyfriend Teddy (Trevor Donovan). I mean, who is named Teddy anymore? But I digress. At least Silver rejects the notion of getting breast implants in Tuesday’s episode.

So while we wait for next week’s trip to Temporary Lezbo Land, Gia does what every loyal lesbian friend does for the object of their affection: Find unique methods for them to get over their ex. And in Gia’s case, that means taking Adrianna — who busted out Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” early on in the episode — to audition for the aptly named all-girl band The Gloria Steinems. And just as Adrianna starts to get pumped that she’s in the band, look who pops in — Navid’s new fling. What’s a girl to do? Oh wait, that’s right: Turn to her lesbian friend. Again.

Are you still with me? Because really, all Tuesday’s episodes served to do was set up the much-hyped lesbian tryst between Adrianna and Gia in next week’s episode, the teaser for which was so completely asinine that even a diehard trash TV fan of the show couldn’t buy into it.

Check out the promo for next week:

Sure, the censors won’t let it fly. Sure the network is concerned with exploiting the story line. Riiiiiight. Although they’re right that “a little lady-lady action may be just the thing.”

Either way, I’ll be tuning in, even if this isn’t the kind of visibility that I’d have liked to see on the show. What do you think?
