Earlier this month Diana Nyad inspired the world with her 53-hour swim from Cuba to Florida. Following her record-breaking feat, Nyad quickly began her press rounds, already having made appearances on Chelsea Lately and The Ellen Show. On Sunday, October 6, Nyad will make yet another appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s Super Soul Sunday for what will be the first part of a two-week special event.
In the first look at Nyad’s interview, Nyad sits down with Oprah to talk about her preparation for the historic Cuba to Florida journey. “What you showed us all is what a real warrior looks like,” Oprah says to Nyad in the clip. “I can’t even imagine what that pain felt like.”
Diana Nyad first attempted to complete the approximately 110-mile swim in 1978 and was successful on her fifth attempt, completed on September 2.
“It wasn’t so much what did I want to do, it was who did I want to be,” she explains to Oprah.
Part one, “The Power of the Human Spirit,” continues on October 13 with part two, “Dare to Dream.” Both episodes are to air at 11 a.m. on OWN.
