Actor Holly Robinson Peete, best known for her starring roles in 21 Jump Street alongside Johnny Depp, and Hangin' with Mr. Cooper, has caught the ire of some activists for a tongue-in-cheek reference to her alma mater's all-female lacrosse team on ESPN earlier this week.

Peete, a married straight woman, is apparently an almuna of famously queer-heavy Sarah Lawrence College, and told the hosts of First Take that the liberal arts college wasn't heavy on sports. "We had, like, a lesbian lacrosse team," Peete said, prompting hosts Cari Champion and Skip Bayless to balk.

"You OK, Skip?" Peete asked the aghast host.

But what's perhaps even more odd than Peete's comment — which seems pretty innocuous to us — was ESPN's apology, edited to air before the "offending" statement. In the edited video below, Champion appears on-screen to apologize for Peete's "inappropriate" comment.

But we're willing to bet there were, in fact, some lesbians on Sarah Lawrence's lacrosse team. And since Peete didn't use some slur to refer to the athletes, we're not really understanding what all the fuss was about.

Watch the clip below, and see for yourself. Do you think Peete's comment was inappropriate?
