Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Hanna (Ashley Benson), Aria (Lucy Hale), Emily (Shay Mitchell) and company return to Rosewood tonight for the season four premiere of ABC Family’s guilty pleasure, Pretty Little Liars (PLL).
At the Paley Center in Los Angeles Monday night Executive Producer Marlene King touted season 4 as “the season of answers. So tonight’s premiere is don’t miss TV!
To honor the Liars’ return to Tuesday nights, we’ve compiled the top five reasons why you should tune in!
5) What’s Ravenswood?
Ravenswood is the PLL spin off that centers around a cursed town not far from Rosewood. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plot includes five strangers who find themselves connected by this curse and in order to stay alive, they need to solve the town's mysteries and uncover its tarnished history before it's too late. PLL regular Tyler Blackburn (Caleb Rivers) will be the cross over character for the show, but Toby (Keegan Allen) and Spencer will be the characters who introduce us to this new “creepytown.” As if Rosewood wasn’t creepy enough?
Ravenswood will premiere in October, immedately following the PLL Halloween episode on ABC Family.
4) The Emily/Paige /Shana Love Triangle
It used to be that Emily and Paige (Lindsey Shaw) were the only lesbian couple in their small Pennsylvania town, but it looks like there might be a dark Sapphic force penetrating Rosewood in the form of Shana (Aeriel Miranda) and Jenna (Tammin Sursok). The season 3 finale exposed just how deep Emily/Paige’s problems might go, and also introduced us to the flirtatious nature that is Shana. Girl has her eyes set on Emily, but she’s also romancing Jenna on the side. Not to mention, she has flirted with every liar with the exception of Hanna (who is very hurt by the omission). We definitely need to tune in to see how far this will actually go.
3) Mona is NOW a Liar
We’ve always known that Mona (Janel Parrish)could be the queen of manipulation after watching her terrorize Rosewood, all the while, hiding behind her black hoodie and cell. But…after she, along with the rest of the liars, were almost killed in an arson fueled blaze last season, whoever is playing “A” has unwittingly initiated the reunion of Mona with Hanna and the rest of the liars. This, we gotta see…
2) Who is red coat?
At the close of season 3 the girls began seeing a mysterious figure in a red coat lurking behind bushes and trees all over Rosewood. Then, during the finale Hanna was pulled from a burning house to safety by someone in a red coat. And when Hanna came to, she saw Alison (Sasha Pieterse) wearing said coat. Could the long dead and buried BFF Alison reallybe alive? Spencer, Hanna and Mona all claim to have seen her. Crazier things have happened, right?
And if those weren’t reason enough, we finally have…
1) What the Hell is in the Trunk...
The final scene of the season 3 finale featured all five liars peering with mouths agape, into the open trunk of the missing cop Wilden’s (Bryce Johnson) car. Oh, did we mention that said car was previously submerged in a lake on the outskirts of town? First of all, was the Jedi mind trick employed to get the car from the bottom of a lake to the center of town? Secondly, why does everything in Rosewood happen in and around the church? And lastly, what is in the trunk?
Talk about cliff hanger ending! Fans of the show had to wait three months for the answer, and according to showrunner Marlene King, we’re finally going to find out.
Season four of PLL premieres tonight at 8pm on ABC Family.
