Time Magazine announced today that Angelina Jolie, the Oscar-nominated actress, U.N. humanitarian, and mother of 6 would be the subject of their cover story in their upcoming issue scheduled to hit newsstands on Friday.
Jolie was not chosen for her multiple award winning film and Television projects, or her invaluable work as the Special Envoy of High Commissioner António Guterres, where works tirelessly to facilitate long-term solutions for people displaced by large-scale crises, in places like Afghanistan and Somalia.
Timechose its latest muse for her brave decision to undergo an elective double mastectomy in order to reduce her genetically high risk of breast cancer. Cancer took her mother in 2007, which prompted the actress to make the decision, which she says is the best decision for her, and her family.
According to Time, she tested positive for the breast cancer-related BRCA1 gene, putting the probability that she would develop the disease at 87%.
With her announcement, Jolie has cast a light on the importance of genetic testing and has brought a new option to the table for the millions of woman who could find themselves battling the disease.
Bravo Angelina!
