Brittney Griner, the newest member of the Phoenix Mercury and the number-one WNBA draft pick, took the stage with characteristic style and swagger at the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in San Francisco on Saturday. Rocking a white suit that's fast becoming her trademark look, the 22-year-old MVP seemed accessible and humble, as usual.

Griner, whose low-key public coming-out in an on-air interview with Sports Illustrated garnered not a third of the fanfare that NBA center Jason Collins's coming out did just weeks later, told the GLAAD crowd that she's been out to her mom since ninth grade. It was a similar non-issue.

"My mom was cool. It was pretty weird," recalled Griner, 22. "I sat on the stairs, she sat in her room. I was like, 'Mom, gotta tell you something!' I came out, she was like, 'I love you.' I was like, 'All right, well, gonna go play some video games.'"

Griner also had some inspirational words for young LGBT people. Listen to those below, and check out all the details from the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in San Francisco here.
