St. Patrick's Day Ravishing Redhead Roundup

St. Patrick's Day is Sunday, and since we'll all be celebrating the season the best way we know how — getting drunk and kissing anyone who claims to be Irish — we thought we'd deliver some Irish-esque eye candy now before the leprechaun runs away with our motivation and takes it somewhere over the rainbow.

St. Patrick's Day is Sunday, and since we'll all be celebrating the holiday the best way we know how — getting drunk and kissing anyone who claims to be Irish — we thought we'd deliver some Irish-esque eye candy now before the leprechaun runs away with our motivation and takes it somewhere over the rainbow.

It might not be an actual, concrete fact, but it's generally accepted that a surefire sign of someone's Irish heritage can be found atop their heads: flowing red locks are an excellent indicator of the luck of the Irish.

Then again, perhaps it's the significant others of these gorgeous redheads who really got lucky. We know these ladies aren't lesbians, and may not be Irish, and hell, some of them aren't even natural redheads. Still. We don't care.

Just take one look at Christina Hendricks below, and tell me you aren't tempted to keep clicking through to find additional ravishing redheads. Go on. I dare you.

Christina Hendricks might not be a natural redhead, but we're hard-pressed to find anyone willing to kick the curvaceous vixen out of bed. And we'd bet there's a few ladies who would be more than happy to show Hendricks what she's missing hanging out with all those Mad Men.

As far as we know, Julianne Moore is an authentic redhead, and we wish she weren't just acting in her numerous roles playing lesbian. Most recently, Moore played bisexual mom Jules in The Kids Are All Right, but she's also gone gay-for-pay in The Hours, Chloe, and The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. Also, with that thick Boston accent in 30 Rock, we're pretty confident she's actually of Irish descent.

Well, at least we found one red-headed lesbian! We loved Cynthia Nixon as the no-nonsense Miranda on Sex and the City, but we love her even more as an outspoken gay lady who spoke out in favor of marriage equality, and when it became a reality in New York, married her wife Christine Marinoni last year.

Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton has been open about her polyamorous marriage since British tabloids picked up the story in 2008, but she was nonplussed. Noting that her husband and her boyfriend are great friends, Swinton has also brushed off critiques of her so-called masculine appearance with a cheeky quip that she should "wear more lipstick." A 2008 article from The Daily Mail alleges that when she's not filming, the star dares to don "hairy legs and gnarled feet." Such a rebel.

Lucille Ball is arguably America's first favorite redhead, a famously firey woman whose husband Desi Arnaz told hysterical, McCarthy-era politicians in 1953 that "the only thing red about Lucy is her hair, and even that is not legitimate." Not that we're bothered by that. And while we're on the subject, who else picked up a bit of best-friend lady-love tension between Lucy and Ethel? There's no way those bumbling husbands could have fulfilled all the needs of their spitfire spouses.

Jessica Chastain proved she can take command in last year's Zero Dark Thirty, and we'll admit we wouldn't mind this ravishing redhead taking control of a hypothetical, hyper-romantic date. Not that we've ever fantasized about such a thing. Nope. Never.

We'd be remiss if we didn't mention Rita Hayworth among our list of classic redheads. The dancer and star of films like Gilda and The Lady from Shanghai capitvated fans around the world with her effortless grace, stunning beauty, and salacious love life.

Moving from the classic to the contemporary, we've got nothing but love for Emma Stone. Whether she's starring in The Amazing Spider-Man reboot, stealing our hearts in Crazy Stupid Love, or kind of,  sort of, almost tackling institutional racism in The Help, we just want to see more of Emma. And we know at the very least she's an ally, since she had no problem being a beard for her gay best friend in Easy A

We might have apppreciated a slightly fuller-figured Sarah Rue, but we're stoked the oft-overlooked actress is finding regular work in Malibu County. In real life, she's a straight mother, but on-screen, Rue has taken gay and gay-adjacent roles, appearing on Will & Grace, and in an episode of ER called "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

Alyson Hannigan is a natural redhead who is straight, but earned herself legions of lesbian fans when she played Willow, the most powerful witch in the 'verse, on the long-running Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Sure, she also had an ongoing gig in the American Pie series, uttering those famous words about what happened "This one time, at band camp..."

Debra Messing is still probably best known as America's favorite — and for too many, the first — 'fag hag' as half the titular non-sexual couple on Will & Grace. While Messing certainly wasn't the gayest thing about the show, despite her constant efforts to lock down a husband, she still wasn't the straightest part about the series, either.

Now, she just might be one of the most appealing things about Smash.

We know we aren't the only ones who regularly confuse Isla Fisher and Amy Adams, but as near as we can tell, Fisher is the genuine redhead, and while she wasn't born in Ireland, she was born to Scottish parents in the middle-eastern nation of Oman, so at least she originated closer to the Emerald Isle than we are here in the States. The scene-stealer from Wedding Crashers has also made an impression on American audiences as the afflicted in Confessions of a Shopaholic, and the animated Johnny Depp flick, Rango.

Gillian Anderson took our breath away as the truth-seeking Agent Dana Scully in The X-Files, but we would have been even more speechless if she'd donned a dress with a plunging neckline like the one above. She's also portrayed a vicious madam in the U.K. miniseries The Crimson and the White, ruthlessly ruling her harem of harlots in a fictionalized Victorian England.

Dame Maggie Smith already had a prolific career under her belt when Downton Abbey skyrocketed her back into the public eye. The British redhead has even obtained the elusive EGOT — If you pretend the "G" stands for Golden Globe instead of Grammy. Regarless, Smith has two Oscars, three Emmys, three Golden Globes, and a Tony Award. That seems sufficient enough to declare her an EGOT-having, Queen-ordained, ravishing redhead.

We're well aware that this list isn't exhaustive, and we're eager to hear from you! Tell us in the comments who you'd like to add to this list, and which sexy redhead you wouldn't kick out of bed.
