Regular SheWired readers will be unsurprised by my confession that I have a giant, newsy-nerd crush on out MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow. I've swooned over her in the occasional Shot of the Day, and in general, I agree with everything she says about, well, everything. She's smart and pointed and eloquent, but one area in which she admits her own shortcomings? Humor.
That's why it was especially exciting to see Maddow on Thursday's episode of Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Promoting the paperback edition of her military power analysis book, Drift, Maddow "raised the white flag," admitting on her own show that Stewart is her comedic superior. Watch, below, how Maddow teases her Daily Show appearance on The Rachel Maddow Show, then keep scrolling down for the full Stewart-Maddow interview, where the pair rip into Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, comparing him to racist, inflammatory internet commenters knowns as "trolls."
Watch Stewart and Maddow talk about the fighting words between justices Sonia Sotomayor and the proudly contrarian Scalia, and the absurdity of trying to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act.
Then the progressive pundits turn their attention to the impending sequester, which Maddow calls "Wanton infliction of harm on the country by the government." Stewart also calls for a movement to "Preserve Maddow" and give the hard-working anchor Fridays off, a privilege Stewart enjoys.
