Shot of the Day: Sarah Paulson and Clea DuVall as their 'American Horror Story' Lesbian Characters

Grab a sneak peek at the out and allied actresses playing lesbian on FX's 'American Horror Story.'

Gay producer Ryan Murphy's sole venture outside the bubblegum sitcom world of Glee and The New Normal, FX's American Horror Story: Asylum features plenty of compelling characters at the fictional, 60s-era Briarcliff asylum. For a full run-down of the thriller's LGBT characters, check out this article on The Advocate by SheWired writer Diane Anderson-Minshall.

But for those of you wanting a shortcut to the lesbian ladies, take a look at these images of two lesbian characters on the show; Out actress Sarah Paulson plays underappreciated lesbian journalist Lana Winters, who is hell-bent on uncovering the secrets behind Briarcliff.

And Clea Duvall, who's played gay in landmark lesbian films like But I'm a Cheerleader, Itty Bitty Titty Committee, and Carnivále, takes on another lesbian role with Wendy, an out schoolteacher who we're hoping will play an increasingly prominent role as the season progresses.

The Hollywood Reporter posted these eerie images of both women in character — just in time for Halloween.
