Ellen Barkin Tapped for LGBT-Themed Allison Adler/Ryan Murphy Sitcom 'The New Normal'

Tony winner Ellen Barkin is in final negotiations to star in Allison Adler and Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy's new half-hour gay-themed comedy pilot entitled The New Normal. Normal is being described as a heartwarming comedy about a blended family, consisting of a gay couple and a woman who becomes the couple’s surrogate after they decide to start their own family. Out lesbian Allison Adler made headlines in 2011 for her split with her partner of 11 years Sara Gilbert.

Tony winner Ellen Barkin is in final negotiations to star in Allison Adler and Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy's new half-hour gay-themed comedy pilot entitled The New Normal, according to Deadline.

NBC's Normal, is being described as a heartwarming comedy about a blended family, consisting of a gay couple and a woman who becomes the couple’s surrogate after they decide to start their own family. 

The Book of Mormon sensation Andrew Rannells was already cast in the show.

Barkin won the Tony in 2011 for her role in the revival of Larry Kramer’s benchmark  play The Normal Heart, about the early days of HIV / AIDS. She has also famously starred in the 1989 thriller Sea of Love with Al Pacino and in Blake Edwards 1991 gender bending comedy Switch. Lately Barkin has become a star on Twitter, renowned for her often hilarious, pull-no-punches Tweets.

Adler is a producer who was named one of POWER UP’s 10 Amazing Gay Women in Showbiz. She’s worked on Commander in Chief, Chuck, No Ordinary Family and Glee to name a few. She made headlines in 2011 for her split with her partner of 11 years Sara Gilbert.
