Dolly Parton’s larger than life career is inspiration for a new Broadway musical, penned by none other than Dolly herself!
Dolly, a long-time LGBT ally, plans to write the musical, based on her life story, tracing her journey all the way from humble family beginnings in Tennessee, through decades of country music and worldwide super stardom.
The celebrated singer, songwriter, and actress told WENN, "I'm writing my life story as a musical for Broadway. I probably won't be in it but I'll find a way to introduce it somehow, maybe the older me."
While no debut date has yet been announced, Dolly fans won’t have to wait long to see something new from the legendary performer.
The musical about Dolly's life won't be her first foray into Broaday however. The country diva wrote original songs for the stage version of 9 to 5: The Musical that went to Broadway in 2009.
Parton stars in A Joyful Noise with Queen Latifah, in theaters January 13. The two talented leads play dueling choir leaders who must join forces to save their gospel-singing group.
Although casting for the Dolly Parton life story is a long way off, our vote for who should play Dolly is the amazing Megan Hilty (Smash), who played the role that Dolly originated in the 1980 film 9 to 5 film in which she belted Dolly's self-reflexive country tune "Backwoods Barbie."
