Haley Kiyoko is officially a quadruple threat. The singer, dancer, and actor can now add author to her list of hyphenates. She’s announced that she will be releasing her first book next year, a young adult novel based on her hit song (and video) “Girls Like Girls.”
The book is described as a coming-of-age romance about a girl’s first love. It’s “a story about messy beginnings and learning to love hard, no matter what — or who — you want. After all, girls like girls like boys do, and that’s nothing new,” reports Just Jared.
“Ever since I released the music video for ‘Girls Like Girls‘ [in 2015], it has been a dream of mine to tell the whole story of Coley and Sonya,” Kiyoko shared in a statement. “I am so excited to explore these characters further in a novel – to really get inside their heads, and their hearts, and to take readers on their quest for love. I am forever grateful for my fans who continue to champion me and help fuel my passion for storytelling.”
Recently, Kiyoko’s made headlines in the most adorable ways. First, she gushed — and shed a few tears — over her girlfriend (Bachelor alum) Becca Tilly’s coming out. “I was also honored to be there with her during her journey to know that she should live the life that she wants to live,” Kiyoko said while guesting on Tilley and Tanya Rad’s Scrubbing In podcast. “A lot of my fans go through that too, so it was really interesting to be a partner for that if that makes sense, ‘cause I hadn’t been a part of that.”
Kiyoko also reacted to Scooby-Doo’s Velma recently coming out as a lesbian. Kiyoko played Velma as her first big role in a film in 2008, and she shared a throwback photo to that time with the caption “Baby gay.”
