7 Bisexual Icons to Dress Up As for Halloween
7 Bisexual Icons to Dress Up As for Halloween

It's almost Halloween. As most queer folks know, Halloween is not one night, but a month of excuses to dress up. Forgive me for giving into bi stereotypes, but speaking personally as a bi person, looking glam and going all out with fashion that some would consider costume-y is my go-to, so any excuse to freak people out anymore with the level of sequins on my body is a reason to celebrate.
While anyone can dress up as these iconic bi celebrities, there's just an extra level of magic involved when you're bi yourself. Will you put on a crown and put a stop to any straight-washing of Freddie Mercury? Will you please bring back Lady Gaga's meat dress? Or will you go as Azealia Banks and even slaughter a chicken as part of your costume? Why not all three? Read on for seven bisexual icons to dress up as for Halloween!
1. David Bowie
David Bowie is the go-to bi icon to dress up as for Halloween. I've gone as him twice, once as Ziggy Stardust, and once as Jareth the Goblin King. Next on my list is a light blue "Life on Mars" tuxedo complete with the orange mullet and blue eyeshadow. Iconic. Or, you could bandage your face and get a little scary as Blackstar-era late in life Bowie. (Rest in power!) He'll probably judge you for not getting the hair right from the heavens, but that's why we love that fabulous bitchy Capricorn.
2. Lady Gaga
Do you want to wear a giant white hat and a platinum blonde wig? Or recreate her A Star is Born character? Or, OMG, someone please put on an actual meat dress! Bisexual icon Lady Gaga is fabulous for so many reasons, but one of them is that she's, like, only 30 and already has a legacy of possible Halloween outfits for her fans based on her many iconic looks.
3. Freddie Mercury
The release of the film (which I'm still totally going to see) Bohemian Rhapsody has been called out for its bi-erasure in its depiction of Mercury. Mercury cannot be straight-washed. So grab your stick on mustache, a crown fit for a king, and a yellow jacket and act like your fabulous bi self this Halloween through the everlasting power of the queer royal that is Freddie Mercury.
4. Amber Heard
As a bi high femme, I adore Amber Heard because oh my, that Hollywood glamour. Heard proves that while Bowie's bi androgyny is another form of fabulous, there's no right way to present yourself as a bi person. To dress as Heard, just put on a luscious blonde wig, a ball gown, and act like everyone (especially Elon Musk) is totally obsessed with you and your bomb bi pussy.
5. Azealia Banks
As many Twitter feuds as she gets into, as many problematic comments she says, we all know that the queer community just can't quit Azealia Banks. She's also a legit witch who sacrifices chickens, which is the sort of energy you should be tapping into around Halloween. Plus, from her purple hair phase to her colorful stage outfits, she gives her fans plenty of looks to work with on Halloween. And, not to mention, it's a great excuse to make fun of Elon Musk again! (Sorry Kim K., but Azealia Banks' account of hanging out with Elon Musk and Grimes is the most epic social media call out of all time.)
6. Evan Rachel Wood
As much as I adore her, I have to admit that Evan Rachel Wood's personal style isn't really distinct enough to warrant it's own costume. (Sorry Evan, no shade intended!) Her roles, however, from a vampire queen in True Blood to a troubled teen in Thirteen (you can wear a temporary tongue ring!) to a prairie-hot robot in a blue dress from Westworld, leave her fans with so many fabulous options!
7. Billie Joe Armstrong
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong came out as bisexual in 1995 during an interview with The Advocate in which he said, "It's something that I've always been interested in. I think people are born bisexual, and it's just that our parents say it's taboo. It's ingrained in our heads that it's bad, when it's not bad at all. It's a very beautiful thing."
Thankfully, being bi isn't as taboo as it was in 1995, but on Halloween, why not pretend it's 1995 and rock a Hot Topic t-shirt, a spiky black wig, and, of course, that fabulous eyeliner.
