In a recent interview with the nationally syndicated radio program The Bert Show, pop singer Aaron Carter, who came out as bisexual on Twitter this past weekend, opened up about why it was the right time to come out publicly, revealing that his bisexuality was the reason why he and his ex-girlfriend, Madison Parker, split.
"I had discussed it with my ex-girlfriend," Aaron said. "She didn’t really understand it and she didn’t want to. And that was it! So we left it mutual and parted ways."
This isn’t an uncommon response. In Dr. Maria Pallotta-Chiarolli's recently published book entitled Women in Relationships with Bisexual Men: Bi Men by Women, she notes that roughly a third of women immediately break up with their male partner if he reveals he’s bisexual while they’re dating. The negative response from his girlfriend is partly what encouraged Aaron to come out as bisexual when he did. But he also mentioned that he’d been thinking about coming out for many years.
"I just felt like it was something I needed to do...It was something that I just felt like was important and I needed to say. It was a part of a new chapter of turning 30 on December 7 this year," said Carter.
Aaron is now very much single, “And whether I choose to be with a woman or a man is my decision.”
He also has got the memo that bisexuality isn’t a phase, asserting, “I find men and women attractive, and that’s never gonna change.”
Thank you Aaron for coming out and making bisexuality visible!
