5 Reasons Darryl Whitefeather Is TV's Best Bisexual

If you're not watching The CW's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, you're missing out on one of the funniest (and highest-rated) shows of the year. Originally intended for Showtime, this hilarious musical comedy (yes, musical comedy) includes a host of characters (and songs) you'll fall instantly in love with.

And our new favorite?

Darryl Whitefeather.

Played by actor Pete Gardner, Whitefeather (who is 1/8 Chippewa and owner of the law firm where the titular main character works) is an awkward, lonely, earnest and intensely loyal guy. He recently came out as bisexual on the show — or as he likes to call it, "both-sexual" — and we couldn't be happier for him! Here are a few reasons why Darryl is our new favorite TV both-sexual:

1. He's not a stereotype.

Darryl is a middle-aged lawyer with an ex-wife, a teenaged daughter and an awkward sense of humor. He's definitely not the media's typical go-to for bisexual characters (which tend to be women).

2. He dispels myths.

In his hilarious solo song, "Getting Bi" (which you can watch below), Darryl works hard to debunk common misconceptions many bisexuals have to contend with on a daily basis.

3. He's not afraid to go after what he wants.

Darryl's object of affection is the show's "stud," White Josh (yes, he goes by "White Josh." Just watch the show). White Josh is traditionally hot (complete with pearly whites and 8-pack abs), but Darryl's honest attraction and lack of "woe-is-me-I'm-not-good-enough-for-the-hot-guy" attitude is a breath of fresh air.

4. He's not the butt of the joke.

Darryl is funny, and his self-actualization has definitely provided some of the show's more hilarious (albeit poignant) moments, but it's not a joke. In an interview with Buzzfeed, Gardner stated about playing the role:

“I’ve gotten letters from bisexual friends that have written to me, and said that actually, when I kissed White Josh, they were holding their breath because they were just waiting for me to go, ‘Nope! Not gay!’” Gardner said. “[It’s] like a joke, their sexual orientation. And that’s just not what it is [with Darryl], and that’s what’s so nice about it.”

5. That mustache!

Not everyone can rock a mustache like Darryl! And when people give him a hard time for "dating out of his league," White Josh is always there to defend his man!
