10 Awesome LGBT College Courses & Where to Take Them
Let’s face it: it can be difficult to find yourself represented in a college classroom. Literature, history, and political science courses tend to veer towards the lives and cultures of straight people, avoiding serious and in-depth conversations on what it means to live and love in the queer community. When you’re unable to find a single example of yourself in a class, it can feel depressing. You’re an important part of society as an LGBT student; why can’t colleges take that seriously?
Luckily, many academic institutions are starting to embrace courses that center gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender voices in the classroom. From the University of Oregon to Rutgers University, syllabi have been emerging that support and raise our experiences as queer and trans folks across the nation. If you’re looking for a couple new courses to take that are geared around being LGBT, consider checking out these ten classes cropping up across the US!
