The Los Angeles LGBT Center's Glitter Run is happening on August 20! The first-of-its-kind, 5K event is, as described by the Glitter Run's website, "a creative and fun opportunity to brighten your spirits by doing something adventurous, something celebratory, something fabulous, and something you’ve never done before...with thousands of other like-minded people."
We got the chance to speak to social media influncer and Glitter Run ambassador Jordan Doww about the big upcoming day!
PRIDE: You've been chosen to be an ambassador in the Los Angeles LGBT Center's Glitter Run on August 20. Were you super excited to get the phone call?
Jordan Doww: Was I excited!? I nearly tripped face first onto Hollywood Boulevard’s Walk of Fame when I got the call. Not only do I love supporting and working with the Los Angeles LGBT Center, I was also just so incredibly honored to be given the opportunity of being aligned with the Glitter Run to run alongside my fellow LGBTQ+ allies for something bigger than we can imagine. An amazing cause, an amazing team, how could I say no?
Have you been practicing for the Dazzling Dance Party? Who do you look to for new moves?
I've been practicing daily in the mirror before bed. I like to turn to Nicki Minaj music videos for inspiration.
Glitter Run only happens once a year. What's a fun, everyday use for glitter?
Glitter is a great coffee additive. Kidding. You can’t go wrong with some glitter highlight to any outfit.
By being an ambassador, what message do you hope to send to your LGBTQ fans?
I want my fans to know that they are loved. Truly. And change ultimately starts with us when we all band together and collectively reach for unity.
We also got the chance to chat with LA LGBT Center's chief marketing officer Jim Key about the history of the Glitter Run, and why it's special to the LGBT community!
Jim Key: During this tumultuous political climate in which outside forces are trying to divide our society, the Los Angeles LGBT Center is hosting this event to unite people of all shapes, races, cultures, ages, sexual orientations, and gender identities in a celebration of our diversity and in direct defiance of those forces. Rather than allow our community to be divided along lines of color, we’ll be thousands of people uniting in a line of many colors.
