Be sure to tune into The New Normal tonight for Leisha Hailey and Constance Zimmer, who are playing a lesbian couple!
Amid critique that Ryan Murphy's new sitcom The New Normal too often places lesbians at the butt-end of jokes, the freshman comedy from Glee mastermind introduces a lesbian couple in tonight’s episode, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Hailey, who famously embodied Alice Pieszecki onThe L Word for six seasons and who is one half of the indie band Uh Huh Her, will be paired withEntourage's Constance Zimmer. Hailey will play the cheery Victoria, who isn't as bitter as her long-term partner, accountant Tiffany (played by Zimmer), about not being able to have a family, THR reports. The lesbian couplewill play good friends of gay leads Andrew Rannells and Justin Bartha.
Co-creator and out lesbian Ali Adler told THR that the show is making an effort to represent the full diversity of modern American families. "We're trying to represent all different kinds of families, parents and friends," Adler told THR. "And certainly that is an area we would explore. We hope to see them soon as an ongoing part of the show."
