Upcoming Disney Movie Features Coming Out Scene...Kind Of

Once again, Disney appears to be trying to toe the line between the LGBTQ community and the anti-gays.

The lack of queer representation in Disney-owned properties has been a point of contention in the LGBTQ community for some time now.

Supposedly, that’s supposed to change with the upcoming film Jungle Cruise. But is it, really?

The film, based on a Disney ride and set in the past, stars The Rock, Emily Blunt, and Jack Whitehall. Whitehall’s character, according to TMZ's account of a test screening, has a scene where he tells The Rock he isn’t interested in women.

“McGregor [Whitehall] explains to ‘Frank’ [The Rock] his family had tried arranging marriages for him with several women, but he didn’t wanna marry any of them — or any woman, for that matter,” TMZ reports.

But apparently, the “coming out” scene manages to exist without ever clarifying that McGregor is gay. It’s unclear at this point if he even says he’s interested in men, or just leaves it at not being interested in women.

The movie isn’t set for release until 2020, so there’s plenty of time for the scene to be clarified, or, more likely, omitted altogether.

But so far, Jungle Cruise seems to be another instance of Disney trying to toe the line between winning ally points with the LGBTQ community and not upsetting their religious conservative fanbase.

Though as we know from Beauty and the Beast, all that kind of wishy-washy nonsense does is piss everyone off on both sides.
