Justice for Rue!

Everyone’s favorite casualty of The Hunger Games is both getting and providing closure, a decade after the fact.

Amandla Stenberg, who played Rue in the first film installment of the franchise, recorded a message for Jack Quaid at this past weekend’s San Diego Comic Con, with the help of E! News.

“It’s been so many years, and it’s taken me time to recover. Sometimes I still get a jabbing pain in my abdomen, and I’m reminded of the time you murdered me,” they said. “But we all have our faults, and I forgive you.”

E! News shared both the pre-recorded message and video of Quaid watching it to their TikTok, ending in him celebrating the words of forgiveness from his former co-star.

“Thank you Amandla,” he said, falling to his knees. “People were spitting on me in the streets, for years!”

Although Quaid has moved on to bigger and splashier roles in recent years, his very first foray into professional acting was in The Hunger Games as Marvel, a District 1 tribute who accidentally murdered Stenberg’s Rue while aiming for Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence).

It’s wild to think about, and every so often, other people seem to come to the realization that, wait, it was QUAID(’s character) who killed their beloved Rue, always resulting in hilarity on Twitter.

Quaid himself has also posted about it frequently in the past, taking the taunting in good stride.

Will this stop the occasional shocked realization that The Boys star 1) played the character responsible for killing Rue, 2) in The Hunger Games at all? Probably not, but at least he has Amandla’s forgiveness to hold close to his heart all the same.
